Untwisting Scriptures — Book Five

Book 5

Brokenness & Suffering

Addressing some of the controversial Scriptures about brokenness, suffering, what it means to be a “victim,” and more, this book untwists Scriptures by looking at word meaning, context, and the heart of God for His people.

You can learn what God really thinks about brokenness and suffering, knowing that if you follow and love the Lord, He does not abuse you. Along the way, you may develop a deeper appreciation for who our God is and what He has done for you.

SCRIPTURES CAN BE UNTWISTED. YOU CAN RISE UP FROM SPIRITUAL ABUSE AND WALK IN THE FREEDOM OF CHRIST.

After hearing the negative aspects of brokenness and suffering presented for years, this book was a burden-lifting breath of fresh air. Rebecca Davis shines the truth of God in the darkness of scripture twisting and she is clear and concise in revealing what the Bible really says about brokenness and suffering. This book is full of beautiful nuggets of truth and encouragement and reveals the loving heart of the Father and His Son. This is a great reference book for studying and is a wonderful resource to have on hand and be able to share with and recommend to others who have been mislead about these topics. It now has a place on my bookshelf along with all four of Rebecca’s other books on untwisting the scriptures.

Once again, Rebecca’s dedication to interpreting Scripture through the lens of culture and context shines through. When does Scripture talk about God “breaking” those who place faith in Jesus? Oh, that’s right, never. I once held a very morbid view of brokenness–that God, who loved me, also wanted to break me “for my own good”. Yet, my love for others was supposed to inspire me to build them up and not break them. Make it make sense.
I read this book during a season of deep sadness, perceived defeat, and darkness. It was so healing and anchoring. Turns out, God is truly who He says He is–gracious, slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, keeping covenant. He comes as Healer, Friend, Comforter, Savior–our true Emanuel–and not as abuser, schemer, or deceiver.
Highly recommended reading if you are a Christian experiencing suffering, and especially if you are praying for brokenness when what you truly need is wholeness. This is an absolute must-read if you are a Christian in a position of guiding others through seasons of suffering.

Rebecca Davis has, again, untwisted the way scripture has been used by some Biblical expositors and made it life-giving, clear, and healing as it should always be used.
Her research back to very public “original” teachers of such incorrect applications and teachings as “brokenness” and “brokenness as a lifestyle” then comparing what the Bible states about it has cleared up confusion and given me relief about the Living Word. Her openness and honesty to name these teachers stands out as refreshing as a cup of clear, cool water on a hot day.
Ms. Davis, with truth and mercy, goes to the heart of the issues and helps me understand that the illogical and out of context conclusions of some should not be used as a basis for living my life.
This book is another book in her series that I highly recommend.
