Imago Dei Church in Raleigh, NC

On November 3-4 at Imago Dei Church in Raleigh, NC, Joy Forrest of Called to Peace (www.calledtopeace.org) will be holding a conference called “Developing a Church-Wide Response to Domestic Abuse.”

Chris Moles (www.chrismoles.org), author of The Heart of Domestic Abuse, will be the primary speaker. But a few others will also be speaking, and I’m excited to say that I’ve been asked to do one session.

Joy has asked me to tell a bit of my own story of how I came to learn what I’ve learned and do what I do.  If you’re familiar with my website, you’ll know that will be an expansion on the “The evolution of this blog” page above.

She has also asked me to do some Scripture untwisting similar to what I’ve often done on my blog, so I’ll be talking about the teaching “Christians have no rights” (or Christians need to yield their rights), which if you’ve read Untwisting Scriptures you may already be familiar with. I chose this one because it’s a ubiquitous wrong teaching in conservative evangelicalism, I haven’t been able to find any teaching refuting it (except my own), and it’s a very devastating teaching in the lives of those who are being abused.

I’m going to make my best case that not only does a Christian definitely have rights, but also he or she shouldn’t give up his or her rights. And even one more—it’s impossible to give them up. I hope and pray this will make a positive difference in how the oppressed are being counseled.

The conference will be Friday evening November 3rd and all day Saturday November 4th. You can find more information and register at the EventBrite page, here.

I hope to see you there!

Go here to download your free Guide, How to Enjoy the Bible Again (when you’re ready) After Spiritual Abuse (without feeling guilty or getting triggered out of your mind). You’ll receive access to both print and audio versions of the Guide (audio read by me). I’m praying it will be helpful.
